Nothing came hinder the vote: ECOWAS
The election observation mission of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) issued a statement on Sunday the presidential election on April 25 in Togo.
The mission of 100 observers led by Amos Sawyer, former Liberian president, says the election was held without major incident. "All candidates who wished to have access regions and prefectures for their campaign and were also treated to the media coverage of their program according to the texts provided for this purpose," says the statement of ECOWAS
The mission also welcomed the successful conduct of early voting of the defense and security forces on 22 April. Regarding the general election, he ran for a calm and peaceful note. Election materials were available in almost all polling stations. There was the actual presence of the delegates of the candidates in the majority of polling stations.
For ECOWAS, there was no interference and no major incident that may taint the integrity of the voting process. The mission believes that overall, the election of April 25 took place in acceptable conditions of freedom and transparency.
'The mission of ECOWAS welcomed the efforts of all stakeholders, especially the people of Togo, government, political parties and the security forces, to ensure the proper conduct of the poll, in the calm and peace. It welcomes especially the sense of responsibility and discipline shown by the voters in the expression of their civil rights. Mission emphasizes the active participation of women in the voting process, 'notes the declaration signed by Amos Sawyer.
ECOWAS welcomed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)) for the successful organization of the ballot and consolidates democratic governance in Togo and also reconciliation and national unity. "The mission hopes that this election will pave the way for the deepening of political, economic and security necessary for the development of the country," said the note.
At the same time, it asked the people, political leaders, activists and supporters to refrain from all acts of violence, intimidation or provocation during this crucial phase of peacebuilding and Democracy, in the best interests of the nation.
"She urges them above all to ensure at all times to respect the order and discipline and invites the security forces involved in the process to continue their joint efforts, in strict compliance with the republican spirit," writes ECOWAS mission urges candidates to only resort to legal channels for the resolution of any potential electoral disputes.  
ECOWAS has closely followed the electoral process through its early warning mechanism. The current president of the organization, John Dramani Mahama, has moved twice, on 23 March and 25 April last.
Moreover, the election observation mission of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on Sunday welcomed in a statement the quality of the presidential election in Togo.
It pays tribute to the 'political maturity of the Togolese people and unwavering determination to make democracy in the political landscape.'
Finally, the election observation mission of the Inter Parliamentary Economic and Monetary Union of West Africa Committee (CIP / UEMOA) felt that the voting took place in good conditions.
The task requires candidates to maintain a peaceful climate until after the announcement of final results.
